Thanksgiving & Trade Shows

On Thanksgiving Day we acknowledge our dependence.  ~William Jennings Bryan

This week we will be celebrating Thanksgiving with our family and friends.  People we co-exist within our support system.   We may only see them once a year but on Thanksgiving day we re-connect and bond again.   I think Thanks Giving is a lot like Trade Shows.

Some clients you may only see face to face once a year at a trade show.  You invite them in and play the gracious host.  You ask how things are going and you catch them up with your company and your life.  It is a bonding with your company support system.   Without your clients, your company is nothing.

Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.  ~William Arthur Ward

Humans are a social bunch and  Trade Shows reflect that fact.  We gather to bond, learn and meet new people and companies.  Relationships are important in Family and in Business.  When the chips are down and you need a favor from a vendor, you call someone you have a relationship with.  These are the people who care and that caring should not be an accident.  It should be a concerted effort by a company

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.  It turns what we have into enough, and more.  It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.  It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.  Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.  ~Melody Beattie

Breaking bread with family or clients brings us together.  It expresses gratitude that the person or company exists.  It validates the relationship.  Bonding is branding.

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.  ~W.T. Purkiser

Alice what do you see in the looking glass?

I have been learning about social media lately.  I love twitter (follow me at TracyLindsay), I blog, I facebook for family and I do linkedin.  I go to events and listen to podcasts to learn.  I really want to do a great job linking social media and trade shows.  Plus it is fun.

What have I learned?  Social Media is a mirror.  Social media is your own personal focus group that is with you all the time.  It doesn't matter what tool you use as long as it connects you to whomever you want to be connect to and does whatever you want it to do.

Is looking in the mirror hard? Well, I admit it is a little intimidating at first.  Like a 7th grade going to my first dance.  Now as an adult you know that the 7th grader needs to jump in and show her stuff.  And when she falls- she needs to laugh or apologize and move on with intent.

With all of this in mind, I have listed Lindsay Exhibit Group on Yelp   So if you have a comment feel free to post it for the world to see.  Whether it is a sweet note carved into a tree or you are laughing at me with toilet paper hanging out of my pants (yep, done that.) Go ahead.

I invite you to write a review about me or Lindsay Exhibit Group, Inc.  I will pat myself on the back if it is good and I will learn from it if it is bad.  And I thank your for the effort and time.

You all are my continuing education.

What is Green for your Exhibit?

Someone some where did a study and found that Events and Trade shows have an incredible amount of waste involved.  No surprise right.  There currently no standards to being Green in Exhibits but common sense says it should meet these criteria.

  1. Uses recycled materials
  2. Reduces the carbon footprint in the manufacturing process
  3. Reduces the carbon footprint in the transportation of the exhibit

The good news is that there are Green Options out there for exhibitors.  Print on recycled paper or fabric- it looks great and the cost is either the same or about 10% more.  Use bamboo instead of Sintra for a hard substrate.  Carpet can either be made from recycled product or made from renewable product.

It isn't difficult to be Green.  Contact me for more options, visit Eco-Systems to see how great green exhibits are or visit our white pages for some ideas.

Be aware that LEED is coming to exhibits.  They are not sure how it will work out but at this point they are looking at credits for a green exhibit that can be used as a discount for floor space or tax purposes.  I will keep you posted.
